moving on

micro studio ready to go.

This is my last day in Abu Dhabi. All packed up and ready to go. Not sure where we are going, probably back up the road to Dubai, but who knows!  it's a leap of faith. It will all happen without me as I will be spending the next few weeks at home where I can tackle some work that I would rather not have to hand carry home on a plane.

For the last few years my work space has been the size of a very small desk, which I see from the photograph I have bent in the middle! It has been a good exercise in adapting to circumstances. I find that if necessary I don't need a fancy set up, I don't need hundreds of specialised drill bits and burrs, I can manage on about a dozen. I use what I can get here in the UAE, window glass, car spray paint, pan scourers, grit, anything to get the effects I want, and I hope it has made me a more creative engraver because of it. I should remember this lesson when I go home for good.

So, my next post will be from the UK where I will be showing work at the Morley Gallery in London at the International contemporary engraved glass exhibition 9th-23rd October, as well as GlasshausIX at Parndon Mill, Essex, and I will be starting a very special commission. Onward and upward.

    Hi Nancy,
Sometimes I think changing circumstances are good for us. I've up sized and downsized workshop space (and equipment) over the years and it forces me to think more creatively about the work (and how I'm going to produce it!). xxx

Excellent blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers? I'm hoping to start my own blog soon but I'm a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I'm totally confused .. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this site. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's very hard to get that "perfect balance" between usability and visual appearance. I must say you've done a excellent job with this. Also, the blog loads very quick for me on Opera. Excellent Blog!
